Dance…While you can

Standard

One of the things those of you that have been following me know is that I have been trying to work on living the moment to the fullest.  This is not something that comes easy to me as, I am a very detailed scheduler and often miss out on things because it isn’t on the agenda.

While out grocery shopping the other day, this book caught my eye. I took it off the shelf opened the front cover and read the first poem.

First I was dying to finish high school and start college.

And then I was dying to finish college and start working.

And then I was dying to marry and have children.

And then I was dying for my children to grow old enough so I could go back to my career.

And then I was dying to retire.

 And now I am dying…

and suddenly realize that I forgot to live.

So I splurged on myself and spent $13 on myself because this book combined something I needed and something I loved.

When I was a little girl one of my greatest desires was to be a ballerina, unfortunately when I was 3 years old I suffered a significant injury to my left leg and according to the doctor was not allowed to dance.  That is part of the reason I enjoy watching my daughter dance.

Jogging, Bowling and Swimming

Standard

Started the morning with another sunrise jog.  Did the first mile of 60 second jog/60 second walk in 11:52.  I then walked another 2 miles.

Wanting to have a fun-filled summer day; my mom, my grandma, my best friend, my princess, the princess’ friend and I headed to the bowling alley.  We had a great time bowling two games, singing to radio Disney, dancing and eating french fries.

After bowling we grabbed a bite to eat at Pizza Hut.  Then spent the rest of the afternoon at the pool pretending to be mermaids and diving for jewels.

What a wonderful day! Can’t wait for summer school to be over so I can spend every day like this.

The good, the bad, the tired…

Standard

The good:  Due to the holiday I had my bi-weekly weigh in a little early.  In nine days, I lost 1 pound.  Yes ,I am happy about the lost and not a gain but hoped it would be a greater number.  So now I am one pound away from my first short-term goal and a day at the spa.

The bad:  I continued with the 1 minute jog and 1 minute walk intervals today, but lacked the motivational drive I had yesterday.  The first mile 12:01 the second mile 13:06.  The first I am okay with the second I am embarrassed at but at least i did it.

The tired: My body is trying to adjust to new medications, in addition to me working, and trying to enjoy summer.  Anyone who knows me….knows that I am and always have been a burn the candle at both ends person who doesn’t know how to relax.  For the past 3 mornings I have been waking up at 3:30 in the morning unable to fall back asleep.  I am not usually a person who stops during the day, yet alone takes a nap.  But today not only did I take 1 nap but I took 2.  I am still feeling a bit tired but may take advantage and grab a few more naps to catch up on sleep this week.

You’ve come a long way baby….

Today is recital day…there are a few things that I knew will come true today:  1.  It would rain and 2. My girlfriend would get sick and miss the recital.  So far I am 3 for 3.

As a little girl, I dreamed of being a ballerina.  Due to an injury when I was 3, it was a dream unfulfilled.  When I found out I was having a precious princess, I must have purchased every outfit that had a pair of ballet slippers on them or looked like something a ballerina might wear.

Although eager to impart my passion for ballet to my princess, I had to wait until she was 3 to enroll her in the combination class(acrobat, ballet and tap).  We were blessed to have a wonderful teacher, Ms. Jenny, who the princess adores still.

1st Recital 3 years old

Fast forward 2 years….in addition to her combination class, and her Introduction to Jazz class; the princess earned a spot on the competition team.  There was a time at the beginning of this dance year that I didn’t think my little perfectionist would make it, but she pulled through.  She realized that she didn’t have to be perfect but she did have to practice daily and do her best.

Tonight she danced five dances on stage.  She was amazing and I was proud to see how her hard work her made her a better dancer.

3rd recital 6 years old

Here is to many more years dancing as long as she enjoys it.

I Hope You Dance

By: Lee Ann  Womack

I hope you never lose your sense of wonder
You get your fill to eat but always keep that hunger
May you never take one single breath for granted
God forbid love ever leave you empty-handed

I hope you still feel small when you stand beside the ocean
Whenever one door closes I hope one more opens
Promise me that you’ll give faith a fighting chance
And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance

I hope you dance
I hope you dance

I hope you never fear those mountains in the distance
Never settle for the path of least resistance
Living might mean taking chances but they’re worth taking
Lovin’ might be a mistake but it’s worth making

Don’t let some hell-bent heart leave you bitter
When you come close to selling out reconsider
Give the heavens above more than just a passing glance
And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance

I hope you dance
(Time is a wheel in constant motion always)
I hope you dance
(Rolling us along)
I hope you dance
(Tell me who wants to look back on their years and wonder)
I hope you dance
(Where those years have gone)

I hope you still feel small when you stand beside the ocean
Whenever one door closes I hope one more opens
Promise me that you’ll give faith a fighting chance
And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance

Dance
I hope you dance
(Dance)
I hope you dance
(Time is a wheel in constant motion always)
I hope you dance
(Rolling us along)
I hope you dance
(Tell me who wants to look back on their years and wonder)
I hope you dance
(Where those years have gone)

Tell me who wants to look back on their years and wonder
(Dance)
Where those years have gone
(Dance)

Today’s exercise consisted of running back and forth between the theater and dressing room to change the princess into her multiple costumes both for rehearsal this morning and recital tonight.

Livin’ in the Studio

Standard

Dance competition has come to a close but recital time has taken its place.  Tonight the princess had pictures at the studio.  I don’t know if it is because i had to work today and have been so busy with the close of the school year, but get prepared for these pictures was more stressful to me than any competition we have attend this year.  Although it will be a few weeks before the pictures come in I am posting some HORRIBLE pictures(Usually my notebook takes better pics) of her in her costume.

Knowing there would be no slipping away from the studio, but wanting to stay on track, I did 30 minutes on the elliptical.
